Official RockFest Licensing

* Why Do I need a Rockfest Host License?

Rockfest is an event that is over ten years old. When there are unlicensed multiple "Rockfests", each event splinters the balance and integrity of the original and of each other. It doesn't matter what you do with your "Rockfest", or how you spell it, if the consumer public isn't aware that it is a licensed host, the average music fan doesn't understand that the events are not related for the most part. If a sur-name is used in conjunction with the original namesake, and then the sur-name is haphazardly removed (i.e. "whatever" Rockfest becomes just "Rockfest" in ads and media) it makes the misuse worse, and more confusing, resulting in greater damage being done. Federal laws of the United States Codes and many State Codes support this as a basis of fact, and at the very lowest, as common law. To alleviate this growing problem and the indifference of multiple promoters, Underground Records in conjunction with the original event's creators has created a fair, reasonable licensing scheme.

Many have tried to add a "whatever-name" to Rockfest and claim that the "whatever-name" makes the difference as what is "Rockfest" and some go as far to state that "Rockfest" is slang for "rock-festival". Neither is a good argument. Rockfest, as a name and entity, signifies a concert event created over a decade ago by Regina Pierce and Todd West. Rockfest as a name signifies a particular music event, and it is not always a festival; but the plain recognition and spelling of "Rockfest" is recognized around the world as the Underground Records events; plus, some of the Underground Records events are licensed in other countries outside the USA.

* What if I don't license Rockfest and hold my own Rockfest?

Pretty much, regardless of the argument, everyone will know you're scammin' for big bucks. I have no problem calling you out on it, and if you'd like to sue me, best of luck to you, you will lose, and look like an idiot in the process.

* I have my own Rockfest logos, merchandise and sponsors, does the license affect this?

No. Underground Records is not after your sponsorship money, or trying to affect your logo designs, uses, or make money on your merchandise. It has been decided that Licensed Hosts will be able to use the official, annual Rockfest Logos on their tickets and merchandise. The logo features the year of the events along with Rockfest incorporated into the logo. Underground Records will not require that hosts use the official logo, or attempt to influence the design, implementation and use of individual host's logos.

* Does the license affect my ticket charges, or choice of bands or event style?

No. Once again, the host license is for everyone to be able to do their events as they wish, and be recognized as individual events, which could mean different bands, locations and ticket prices. As a licensed host, the licentiate is recognized as a respectful promoter. Underground Records doesn't dictate who plays your event, how much your ticket prices are, or how you'd like your event to transpire. To the public and to the professional, being considerate of others who want to have their own Rockfest shows respect and clear reason. That is why the event creators have made it simple and easy to become a Rockfest license holder.

* What are the benefits of being a licensed Rockfest host?

As an legitimate Rockfest host you are granted the exclusive right for the state or providence to be the sole holder of the Rockfest license for that region. Your event is promoted on the rockfest.org and rockfest.net websites with links and information about your event that you provide to Underground Records. As a host, an equal amount of all license considerations (10 percent of gross) is reserved and distributed to each franchise holder (minus the Underground Records licenses) at the end of each calendar year. Underground Records will respect your integrity and so will independent and major label music fans alike. Underground Records will also support your claims in courts concerning unfair competition, illegal use of service or trademarks, misrepresentation, unlicensed conversion and racketeering concerning individuals or corporations who use Rockfest unrighteously for their own gain and greed.

For complate details on the Rockfest Franchise License, see the actual Licensing Agreement.

* Where can I host my official Rockfest?

Licenses are available in all areas except the following: Georgia, California, New York, Florida, Holland and Brazil, where Underground Records is the actual license holder. At this time, Wisconsin is not available, but that is tentative. A list of license holders is made as the regional licenses are granted on the rockfest.org website.

* Is anyone unable or banned from becoming an official Rockfest Licensed Host?

Not currently. Licenses are granted per year, per event. If a license holder blatantly rips the bands or fans off, they are not eligible for license renewal.
